Megawati On PDIP's Presidential Candidate: My Calculations Haven't Been Completed

JAKARTA - Chairperson of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri said she was still counting the figures to be put forward in the 2024 Presidential Election. Mega said the calculations had not yet been completed.

This was conveyed on the sidelines of Megawati eating meatballs after closing the PDIP II National Working Meeting (Rakernas) at the PDIP DPP Party School, Lenteng Agung, Jakarta, Thursday, June 23.

"As the general chairman, I have to calculate that, you know. So my calculations have not been completed," said Megawati.

PDIP DPP chairman Puan Maharani, who was next to Megawati at the time, replied to her mother's statement, "Still using a calculator," she said with a smile.

In addition, Megawati also talked about the criteria for the presidential candidate she would carry in the 2024 presidential election when she made a speech to her cadres during the PDIP second National Working Meeting.

Megawati emphasized that she was not looking for a leader who only relied on the election. He is looking for a leader who is able to see the challenges ahead.

"The leader I'm looking for is not only electoral-based," said Megawati.

Megawati said that a leader she would choose later was a figure who could see the challenges ahead. Moreover, there will be many global problems in the future, such as a recession to a food crisis.

"As the president said when Mr. Jokowi opened the door, he was most concerned about the challenges ahead, such as global uncertainty, the threat of a world recession, the food crisis and many others," he said.

Therefore, a candidate for leadership is said to be ideologically strong and has governance capabilities. Not just relying on the electoral.

"So the leader I'm looking for is not just an electoral one. The leader the people want is a strong, ideologically capable figure who has the ability to lead governance for such a large Indonesian state," said Megawati.
