PASURUAN - Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas inaugurated Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java, as a Unity in Diversity sub-district which was marked by the signing of an inscription.

The inauguration was held on the sidelines of the Kemah Bhakti Jamboree and Banser National Coordination Meeting in Ledok Village Square, Pasuruan.

"I am amazed at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika in Tosari. Keep it up and nurture it well. Don't let anyone divide the unity and integrity of the citizens," he said as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 17.

According to him, currently there are many people who act in the name of religion and scholars for bad interests. "The end is to divide the unity and unity among citizens," said Yaqut.

Pasuruan Regent Irsyad Yusuf said that apart from the inauguration of Tosari as a Unity in Diversity Sub-district, there was also Ngadiwono Village which was also inaugurated as a Village of Awareness of Religious Harmony and the Pancasila Mosque in Banyumeneng Hamlet.

According to Irsyad, the total population in Tosari District is 19,555 people. Of these, 12 thousand people are Hindus, 6 thousand are Muslims, and about 500 are Christians.

"Although it is dominated by Hindus, tolerance and harmony between religious communities in Tosari District is very good. In the sense that followers of one religion respect each other," he said.

In fact, he said, efforts to enliven every worship activity in mosques, temples and churches are strongly supported by residents.

"For example, if there is worship in a church using loud loudspeakers, that's fine. No one forbids it, because all residents are very tolerant," he said.

Likewise with other matters. Gus Irsyad gave an example regarding the election of village heads in Tosari District, there is no competition between candidates for village heads.

Instead, it was the village head election committee that applied for several village head candidates, and then the village heads negotiated on their own to determine who would be the village head.

"I salute you very much. During the village head election no one ran for election, but the village head election committee applied for several people to be nominated as village head. Then those few people discussed and decided who the village head would be. This happened only in Tosari, in Pasuruan Regency," he said.

Regarding security and public order, Gus Irsyad explained that there were no cases of theft in Tosari District.

"There is no theft of motorcycles, theft by weight or violence," he said.
