Asked About Advancing For The DKI Gubernatorial Election, Gibran: No, It's Still Far Away

JAKARTA - Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is also the eldest son of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated that he has no intention of running in the 2024 DKI Jakarta Governor Election (Pilgub).

DKI Jakarta is one of the provinces that will hold a celebration every five years. The term of office of the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, will expire in October.

"No (for the gubernatorial election for DKI, ed). It's still a long way off," Gibran told reporters at the PDI-P (PDIP) DPP Party School, Lenteng Agung, Jakarta, Friday, June 17.

Separately, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said Gibran must be able to show his leadership by leaving a legacy in the city of Solo. This step must be taken if he intends to replace Anies Baswedan.

"Each leader must show his leadership capacity. In other words, popularity must build a legacy, build progress for the region," Hasto told reporters, Thursday night, June 16.

"That's where every leader experiences a test, including Mas Gibran," he added.

Moreover, Hasto said that the 2024 Pilkada stage is still far away. Prior to the election of regional heads, PDIP first prepares to face legislative elections (pileg) and presidential elections (pilpres).

Therefore, regional heads can have time to work optimally and affirm their commitments.

"So that when facing tests in the field, the leader remains firmly disciplined. This includes the party path," concluded Hasto.
