Central Java - Pekalongan City Government formed a team of rapid reaction units (URC) which were alerted in every sub-district as an effort to prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease (PMK) in livestock.

Head of the Pekalongan City Agriculture and Food Service, Muadi, said that his party would deploy a team of veterinary medical and paramedics specifically for handling animal diseases. They will be on duty in 4 sub-districts inspecting animals that will be sacrificed.

"The URC team will take immediate action if they find indications of PMK cases, either during routine checks or based on reports from residents. He said that if there were reports from the public (surveys) that symptoms of animals suspected of contracting mouth and nail disease and requiring intense treatment and treatment could be immediately addressed.

"For other treatments, we also involve field extension officers and improve information, communication, and education to the public, especially the sacrificial animal committee so that they immediately convey information if they find livestock or sacrificial animals affected by suspected indications of the disease," he said.

According to him, to find out if the health status of livestock is positive or not infected with FMD, they must go through a series of animal health checks, including a PCR rapid test (swab) which can be done at the Laboratory of the Wates Veterinary Center in Yogyakarta.

"We advise the public if they find a sacrificial animal that has symptoms of mouth and nail disease, it can report it to the Pekalongan City Rapid Response Unit so that it can be followed up as soon as possible," he said.
