Floods Inundate North Tambarana Village, Main Road Can't Be Crossed

PALU - Floods hit North Tambarana Village, Poso Pesisir Utara District, Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi Province (Sulteng) on Thursday night, June 16, due to the overflowing of the Matawoo River after the area was rained with high-intensity.

"Heavy rainfall starting at 8 p.m. WITA caused the Matawoo River to overflow because it was unable to accommodate all the rainwater discharge and inundated the residents of North Tambarana Village, to be precise in RT01," said the Head of Logistics and Emergency Division of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi Province, Andi Sembiring, as contacted in Palu, Friday 17 June.

He explained that vehicles heading to Palu City from Poso Regency via the Trans Sulawesi road in the village could not pass because the road was flooded.

Currently, BPBD Poso and BPBD Sigi are recording residents' houses and other facilities affected by the flood. There have been no reports of casualties due to the incident, while residents affected by the flood chose to stay in their homes until the water receded.

"The urgent need now is to normalize the Matawoo River so that water does not continue to overflow into residential areas," he said, quoted by Antara.

Currently, the local BPBD continues to collect data on infrastructure and facilities and infrastructure affected by flooding in the area.

He appealed to the residents of North Tambarana Village to anticipate similar disasters that could occur at any time.

"We continue to coordinate with the North Tambarana Village Government officials to anticipate a bigger impact due to the flooding that occurred," he said.
