Indonesian Navy Handles Residual Waste From Shipwreck At Pongkar Beach

BATAM - The Indonesian Navy (TNI) is handling paper and tissue waste from a recent shipwreck that was scattered along the coast of Pongkar Village, Tanjung Balai Karimun, Riau Islands.

"This is a form of cooperation carried out by Tanjung Balai Karimun Naval Base to clean Pongkar Beach from paper and tissue waste due to marine pollution due to the marine accident of a ship that sank some time ago", said Palaksa (Deputy of Commander) Tanjung Balai Karimun Naval Base, Marine Mayor P. Pandjaitan quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 15.

He explained that this beach cleanup activity was the realization of an order from the leadership of the Navy and was a work program for the Navy's maritime potential in maintaining and preserving maritime potential in the Tanjung Balai Karimun area.

"The paper and tissue waste not only pollutes the sea but also the coast", he said.

He explained that tissue waste is waste that is included in the category of organic waste that is not dangerous and easily destroyed so that people do not need to worry about it.

This Legiatan not only focuses on waste but also reminds the public's concern for the tourism potential in Karimun Regency by still disposing of waste in its place.

"Not only tissue waste, but also plastic waste along the Pongkar Village Beach, and this activity will continue in collaboration with other agencies", said Pandjaitan.
