SURABAYA - Education is one of the special concerns of the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi. One of these concerns is evidenced by the joint support of the Surabaya National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) for the completion of the administration of the Educational Development Contribution (SPP) of 729 high school students or equivalent in Surabaya.

"The 2020-2021 certificates were previously detained by the school, because the students had tuition fees in arrears. So, together with Baznas, I completed the administrative arrears of 729 high school/vocational high school students with a total of IDR 1.7 billion," said Eri, Wednesday, June 15.

That way, hundreds of diplomas can be taken. Eri Cahyadi hopes that similar incidents will not happen again in Surabaya.

"Alhamdulillah, all of my children can receive a diploma that is indeed their right. After all, this diploma is very important to continue their education to a higher level or to work," he said.

Eri Cahyadi said that in fact there are more than 729 high school students whose diplomas are still being held by the school. However, he confirmed, currently Baznas is still completing the process of clarifying the number of student diplomas. "Baznas is still in the clarification process," he said.

Not to forget, Eri Cahyadi thanked the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) within the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot). This is because the money used to redeem the diploma comes from zakat paid by ASN through Baznas.

"Indeed, zakat is an obligation, and now it can be seen that the zakat given can make fellow ummah happy. Our children who cannot get a diploma, today finally get it," he said.

Therefore, Eri Cahyadi ensures that efforts to help the difficulties of high school / vocational students in Surabaya will continue to be carried out. Because, in the future, he wants no more high school diplomas to be held by the school.

"We continue to do and coordinate with the Provincial Education Office. Hopefully there will be no more Surabaya children who cannot redeem their diplomas because they have debts," he said.
