BMKG Urges To Be Aware Of High Waves In NTT For The Next 3 Days

KUPANG - Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorology Station, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has appealed to ship operators and fishermen to be aware of the potential for high waves to hit a number of waters in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) for the next three days.

"Sea waves with a height of 2.5 to 4 meters are likely to occur in six points of NTT waters during June 9-11 2022," said Head of the BMKG Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station Syaeful Hadi as reported by Antara, Wednesday, June 8.

The six water points that are likely to be hit by high waves are the western part of the Sumba Strait, the northern and southern parts of the Sawu Sea.

In addition, the Indian Ocean south of Sumba-Sabu, the Indian Ocean south of Kupang-Rote, and the southern waters of Kupang-Rote.

He appealed to ship operators and fishermen to be aware of the potential for high waves, which pose a high risk to ferries, barges and fishing boats.

In addition, there is one point of water that has the opportunity to be hit by very high waves (4-6 meters) during June 9-10, namely in the Indian Ocean south of Sumba-Sabu.

This very high wave also needs to be watched out for because it poses a high risk to cargo ships.

Meanwhile, the synoptic conditions show that the wind generally blows from the east to the southeast with a speed of 2-6 on the Beaufort Scale.

"Early weather conditions need to be carefully monitored so that ship cruises are avoided from dangers that threaten safety," said Syaeful Hadi.
