JAKARTA - The panel of judges handed down a life sentence against Colonel Infantry Priyanto in the case of premeditated murder of love couple Handi Saputra (17) and Salsabila (14) in Nagreg, West Java.

Priyanto was also sentenced to be discharged from military service during a trial at the High Military Court II, Cakung, East Jakarta, Tuesday, June 7.

In this case, the panel of judges stated that Priyanto was proven to have committed a crime as charged by the High Military Prosecutor II.

"The defendant is sentenced to life imprisonment. The additional penalty is dismissal from military service," said the presiding judge, Brigadier General Faridah Faisal, tapping a hammer, Tuesday, June 7.

In the verdict, the panel of judges stated that Priyanto was proven to have committed premeditated murder as stated in Article 340 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) and depriving other people of independence as stated in Article 333 of the Criminal Code.

In addition, he was proven to have hidden the deaths of other people and disappeared bodies as stipulated in Article 181 of the Criminal Code.

After being sentenced, Colonel Infantry Priyanto threatened to no longer receive facilities and benefits after the panel of judges decided to be fired from military service.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the Jakarta High Military Court II, Colonel CHK Hanifan explained, the verdict on Priyanto's dismissal could not be separated from the panel of judges who considered that Priyanto's actions were unlawful, arrogant, and put only ego first.

He dumped the two victims into the Serayu River, Central Java, after being involved in a traffic accident on Jalan Raya Nagreg, Bandung Regency, West Java on December 8, 2021.

"The panel of judges decided to grant the military prosecutor's decision. Regarding the suitability of the defendant to be defended as a soldier, according to the panel, the defendant was no longer worthy to be defended as a soldier. Because earlier, the nature of the defendant's actions was considered no longer fulfilling," Hanifan told reporters, Tuesday. , June 7th.

According to him, the consequence that Priyanto will receive when he is fired is that he will lose all facilities, salaries and allowances attached to the TNI military service environment.

"So the consequence of his dismissal is that all his service rights are revoked. So there is no longer anyone to receive a pension or other benefits," he said.

He continued, the dismissal would be carried out after a permanent legal decision and administrative process from the TNI. For the next seven days, Priyanto was given time to negotiate with his legal advisers whether he wanted to file an appeal.

If up to the specified limit the defendant has not stated his attitude, then the panel of judges determines that the defendant accepts the decision or verdict.

Hanifan said that when Priyanto was officially dismissed from military service, he would be placed in a civilian detention cell.

"After seven days, the defendant will serve his sentence no longer in a military prison but in a civilian prison because he has been fired," he said.
