JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) is determined to reduce carbon emissions by accelerating the clean energy transition in various sectors. By the end of the year, PLN targets to build 40 SPKLU units spread over 28 points.

PLN's Java Madura and Bali Regional Business Director, Haryanto WS, said that until now, PLN has built 129 SPKLU units spread across 98 points throughout Indonesia.

"In accelerating the formation of this electric vehicle ecosystem, close collaboration and synergy between stakeholders, both the central government, regional governments, business entities, and private parties, especially the electric motorized vehicle industry in Indonesia, is needed," said Haryanto in an official statement, Saturday, June 4.

He added that PLN was ready to support the needs of all parties in terms of electricity infrastructure to accelerate the massive increase in electric vehicles, as a joint effort to achieve the Carbon Neutral target.

Not only that, but PLN will also continue to fully support the need for electricity infrastructure, especially for tourism destinations. Currently, said Haryanto, PLN has built SPKLU in five tourist sites, such as the Borobudur Temple Area, Prambanan Temple Area, Labuan Bajo, Lombok and Bali.

"This October, we will complete the installation of the SPKLU at the Lake Toba DPSP, Likupang, and the Mandalika Tourism Area," added Haryanto.

Previously, to show its commitment, PLN through the Main Distribution Unit of Greater Jakarta has supplied electricity of 2,500,000 Volt Ampere (VA) for the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) owned by PT Mayasari Bakti which will be the charging station for 30 units of electric buses for transportation Jakarta (TransJakarta) operations.

General Manager of PLN Main Distribution Unit for Greater Jakarta, Doddy B Pangaribuan said his party is ready to support the government in developing an electric vehicle ecosystem.

“Wherever the SPKLU uses PLN, the electricity supply in Jakarta is sufficient to meet various electrical energy needs, including the establishment of SPKLU or home charging for owners of private electric vehicles. The highest peak load in 2022 is 5,351 Megawatts (MW) and there is still a power reserve of 2,700 MW of the total capable power of PLN Jakarta, so supply is still very safe," said Doddy.
