BENGKULU - The Department of Livestock and Animal Health of Bengkulu Province said that due to Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) caused the price of cattle to increase ahead of Eid al-Adha.

Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Service of Bengkulu Province, Syarkawi, said that in 2021 the price of one cow weighing 20 kilograms will range from Rp. 13 to Rp. 14 million.

Meanwhile, this year, the price of cattle has increased, reaching Rp. 16 million to Rp. 20 million per head.

"Even though currently PMK in Bengkulu Province has not been found, the price of cattle ahead of Eid al-Adha has increased and currently the price of one cow is above Rp. 16 million to Rp. 20 million," said Syarkawi in Bengkulu, Antara, Thursday, June 2.

He explained that the price increase was due to PMK in Indonesia, especially in Lampung Province.

Because in meeting the needs of cattle, Bengkulu Province supplies cattle from Lampung Province, especially on certain days.

However, he continued, because his party enforced a regulation that every cattle that came from outside the Bengkulu Province must be accompanied by a health certificate so that the stock of cattle from outside the region was reduced.

So that only cows that are recommended and have a healthy certificate can enter Bengkulu Province.

"Meanwhile, cows that are sick or do not have a health certificate cannot enter Bengkulu," said Syarkawi.

Although the price of cattle has increased due to the reduced supply of alternative cattle, he expressed his hope that the stock of cattle in Bengkulu Province will be met for the needs of the community on the feast of sacrifice.

It is known that his party maintains security in border areas such as in Kaur Regency which borders Lampung Province, Rejang Lebong Regency which borders South Sumatra Province and Mukomuko Regency which borders West Sumatra Province.
