The Tor Sarmi Papua Bridge That Was Barred During The Anarchist Demonstration Can Be Crossed

JAYAPURA - The Muara Tor Bridge, Sarmi Regency, Papua, which was barred by the residents of Mafentor has now been traversed. There was an access restriction during the demonstration which led to anarchic action.

The Head of Public Relations of the Papuan Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said that the police had opened the bars since 20.00 WIT.

"Currently, the barrier made by the Mafentor community has been opened by the police for the benefit of residents who will pass either from Sarmi to Jayapura and vice versa," said Kombes Kamal in a written statement, Saturday, May 28.

The impoverishment incident carried out by the Mafentor community demanded the payment of their Ulayat rights from the local government for the flow of the Muara Tor River that crossed to the Muara Tor bridge.

"The Pemalangan started at 13.15 WIT, which was attended by approximately 100 people by burning used tires on the bridge," said Kombes Kamal.

"Knowing that there was an obstacle, Sarmi Police personnel arrived at the scene trying to coordinate with the masses to stop the action, but the masses still did not heed it," continued Kombes Kamal.

Furthermore, at 17.00 WIT, Sarmi Regency Secretary Elias Bakay together with the Head of the Sarmi Police Ops and members arrived at the TKP to have a dialogue with the masses. However, the masses were dissatisfied and did not accept the results of the dialogue, so they carried out anarchist actions.

"Not accepting the results of the dialogue, the masses then assaulted the Sarmi Regency Secretary and members who were securing the action and damaged two official police vehicles," said Kombes Kamal.

Seeing the mass action getting out of control, members then blocked the road to block the mass action. The crowd then attacked the police.

Police fired warning shots to disperse the crowd. Meanwhile, Sekda Sarmi, who was injured by a mob, was taken to the puskesmas.

"The community is asked to refrain from being provoked by irresponsible parties and to submit this case to the police so that the security and security situation in Sarmi Regency remains safe and conducive," said Kombes Kamal.
