Equatorial Rossby Atmospheric Waves Actively Observed In South Sumatra, 9 OKU Regions Asked To Be Alert To Potential Floods

BATURAJA - Manager of Pusdalops of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), Gunalfi said, the Rossby Equatorial wave was actively observed in the South Sumatra region. The atmospheric waves will cause moderate to heavy rain which is predicted to occur in the next few days.

This condition has the potential to cause flooding in several areas in South Sumatra, including in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency.

There are nine sub-districts in OKU that have the potential to be hit by floods due to high rainfall intensity. Communities, especially those who live in areas along watersheds (DAS), are asked to increase vigilance so as not to cause casualties.

The nine sub-districts include Lubuk Raja, Lubuk Batang, Semidang Aji, East Baturaja, West Baturaja, Sosoh Buay Termite, Lengkiti, Pengandonan, and Muara Jaya District because they are in the lowlands.

To anticipate flood disasters, he continued, the OKU Regency BPBD has established disaster management posts in each sub-district, especially in disaster-prone areas.

Every post has been alerted by natural disaster management personnel from the OKU Regency BPBD so that floods can be handled as early as possible.

The OKU Regency BPBD has also sent an early warning letter for natural disasters to all sub-district governments in the local area.

"Including disaster management equipment such as rubber boats to evacuate victims, they are ready to face natural disasters that can occur at any time," he said, as quoted by Antara.
