Minister Of Home Affairs Instructs Acting Regional Head In Papua To Maintain Security Situation

JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian has given a mandate to maintain the security and order situation during the inauguration of five acting regional heads and one deputy regent in Papua.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said the inauguration was in line with the mandate of Law (UU) No. 10 of 2016 concerning Regional Head Elections.

The inauguration was carried out in a hybrid manner at the Sasana Bhakti Praja fedung, the Central Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Jakarta.

"First of all, I would like to advise that the security and order situation in Papua is strictly maintained because a stable security situation will provide space for development to take place to improve the welfare of the respective people," he said as quoted by Antara, Friday, May 27.

The Minister of Home Affairs asked the regional apparatus, especially the newly inaugurated ones, to thoroughly examine the problems that exist in their respective regions. In addition, the Minister of Home Affairs encourages existing programs to be carried out according to regional characteristics.

The Minister of Home Affairs advised local governments in Papua to build good relations with the central government, provincial governments, and other local governments in the vicinity.

“This includes building good relations with the existing staff, of course with the Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum), community leaders, churches, customs, women's leaders, and others need to be embraced. This is a test of your managerial and leadership skills, gentlemen,” he said.

The Minister of Home Affairs said that the central government will always support various works and programs in each region as long as they comply with the rules and laws.

The Minister of Home Affairs hopes that the inaugurated five officials and one deputy regent in Papua can avoid various potential violations of the law.

I hope that all of us, both physically and virtually present, help support so that the acting mayors, regents, and deputy regents can work optimally for the interests of the people in their respective regions. People in Papua," he said.

There were also five officials and one deputy regent who were appointed by the Minister of Home Affairs namely Acting Regent Sarmi Markus Oktovianus Mansnembra, Acting Regent Mappi Michael Gomar, Acting Regent Nduga Namia Gwijangge, Acting Regent Lanny Jaya Petrus Wakerkwa, Acting Mayor of Jayapura Frans Pekey, and Deputy Regent of Biak Numfor Calvin Mansnembra.
