Had Rise, Weekly COVID-19 Cases After Eid Holidays Dropped Again

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that weekly COVID-19 cases after the Lebaran holiday period this year had increased and then fell again in the last week.

In the last 3 weeks, cases that initially only increased by around 1.300 cases, slightly increased to 2.300 cases two weeks ago. Then, in the past week the number has decreased again in the range of 1.500 cases.

"The increase in cases that had occurred tended to be insignificant when compared to the increase in cases that we had experienced in the previous long holiday period," Wiku said in a virtual press conference, Friday, May 27.

Wiku also said that there was a decrease in the number of provinces experiencing an increase in cases. On May 15, there were 24 provinces that experienced a weekly increase in cases amid a decline in national positive cases.

Meanwhile, this week, there were far fewer provinces that experienced a decrease in positive cases, namely 10 provinces.

"As of May 22, 2002 there were only 10 provinces that experienced an increase in cases and the highest increases were Maluku, Lampung, East Nusa Tenggara, Central Sulawesi, Riau Islands, Central Java, Aceh, Bengkulu, West Nusa Tenggara and Gorontalo," said Wiku.

The increase in cases in these provinces also tends to be small, in the range of 1 to 16 cases in one week.

Wiku said there were fluctuations in the number of people tested in the last 4 weeks, with a slight increase in the second week of May after the homecoming period.

In the midst of testing conditions that are considered adequate, the positivity rate or the number of cases in all people tested at the national level consistently shows a downward trend.

"The national weekly positivity rate in the last week was 0.33 percent. This figure is slightly higher than the lowest weekly figure we ever achieved in December 2021, which was even below 0.1 percent," said Wiku.
