BANDUNG - The Department of Highways and Spatial Planning (DBMPR) of West Java Province (Jabar) stated that road conditions in the West Java region will still be maintained before, during, and after going home and the return flow of Eid 2022, because road maintenance is carried out throughout the year.

"The road conditions during preparation for going home with potholes have been completely handled, although at some points, aggregate is temporarily used," said Head of Road Maintenance and Development of the West Java Highways and Spatial Planning (DBMPR) Iwan Suwanagiri, in Bandung, Wednesday, May 25.

In general, according to Iwan, traffic conditions are not disrupted due to road conditions so that going home and backflow for Lebaran in West Java runs smoothly.

He also said that after Lebaran, maintenance was carried out continuously.

"There is periodic maintenance after Lebaran and there are ongoing improvements that will continue. At some points, permanent repairs are needed," he said, quoted by Antara.

Meanwhile, Head of Traffic Division of the West Java Transportation Agency, Agus Priyadi, said that the implementation of Lebaran homecoming this year was going quite well even though traffic jams were unavoidable due to the high enthusiasm of the community for going home this year.

"The implementation of the one-way policy on toll and arterial routes is considered effective enough to break down congestion. Based on the evaluation results, in the 2022 homecoming, the number of vehicles going back and forth to and through the West Java area has increased by 11 percent compared to 2019," said Agus.

If you look at the preferences of the homecoming route used, Agus continued, the number of vehicles using the northern route is greater, 60 percent compared to the number of vehicles using the southern route, which is only 40 percent of the total traffic volume.

In addition, Agus said that a different phenomenon also occurred in the reverse flow. Until May 10, 2022, he said, there were still 32 percent of homecomers or 740,883 vehicles that had not returned to their origin.

This happened, among other things, due to government policies related to extending vacation time for school children.

"Then the implementation of WFH for ASN, and also many who postpone their trips because there are national holidays," he said.

As for the preference for the mode of transportation used by the community during the 2022 Eid homecoming, the type of vehicle that is most widely used by travelers is motorbikes.

Nevertheless, there was a decrease in the number of motorcycle users compared to 2019, which was 35 percent. In addition to motorcycles, the use of public transportation in Lebaran transportation this year has also decreased compared to 2019.

"This shows that people still prefer to use private vehicles compared to public transportation," said Agus.
