BATURAJA - The panel of judges at the Baturaja District Court, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra, handed down the death sentence to Otori Efendi, a defendant in a serial murder case in Bunglai Village that killed five victims in November 2021.

The verdict hearing was held in the Cakra Room led by the Chief Justice Hendri Agustian with member judges Teddy Hendrawan and Arie Septi Zahara, and attended by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) Armein Ramdhani, Tuesday, May 24.

During the trial, the Chief Justice of the Panel of Judges, Hendri Agustian, said that the verdict was in accordance with the previous demands of the public prosecutor who demanded the death penalty for the defendant.

The Panel of Judges considered the things that incriminate the defendant in the verdict that was read out, including the defendant's actions were very heinous, caused many fatalities, caused the victim's child to be orphaned, and the defendant did not regret his actions.

"Meanwhile, there are no mitigating factors for the defendant," he said, quoted by Antara.

Based on the facts of the trial, the defendant was found guilty because he was proven to have committed premeditated murder and was also declared to be in good health at the time of the act.

"The trial stated that the defendant Otori Efendi was legally and convincingly proven guilty of premeditated murder and sentenced him to death," said the Chief Justice of the Panel of Judges as he knocked on the trial hammer.

At the end of the trial, the Panel of Judges gave the defendant 7 days to accept or take legal action against the decision.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor for the OKU District Prosecutor's Office, Armein Ramdhani, admitted that he accepted the judge's decision because it was in accordance with the demands made by his party earlier.

"This is the maximum decision and there is no more severe decision than the death sentence," said Armein.

Armein also expressed his appreciation for the OKU Police for quickly opening up a bright spot in uncovering the heinous murder case committed by the defendant.

"For the transfer of prisoners, we are still waiting for efforts from the defendant. If after 7 days there is no attempt, we will transfer the defendant to the Red Eye Prison," he said.
