PATI - Tidal floods hit the north coast of Java. As a result, dozens of houses were affected by the old disaster.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pati Regency has appealed to residents living near the coast to be aware of high tides from the sea spilling onto the land.

"Today (23 May), it was recorded that there were more than 90 houses affected by the tidal flood in Banyutowo Village, Dukuhseti Subdistrict and Tunjungsari Village, Tayu District," said Head of Daily BPBD Pati Regency Martinus Budi Prasetyo in Pati, quoted from Antara, Monday 23 May.

He said that in Bayutowo Village there were dozens of houses that were hit by the tidal flood, while in Tunjungsari Village there were around 80 houses that were also affected by the tidal flood. The houses of the affected residents are located near the beach.

For now, he said, the puddle in the house has begun to recede to 20 centimeters from the previous high enough.

Based on information from local villagers, the case of the tidal flood was the first time since they lived near the beach from childhood to marriage.

"BMKG estimates that on May 23-24, 2022 there will be a rise in sea levels, so residents who are on the shores of the North Coast of Java should be careful," he said.

Dukuhseti sub-district head Imam Rifai added that due to the brunt of the waves, 15 houses adjacent to the beach were damaged, following the waves since Monday, 23 May afternoon.

"The wave height on Banyutowo Beach reached 2 meters. It even resulted in tidal flooding with water levels reaching 30 cm in residential areas," he said.

As a result of the brunt of the waves, the retaining wall of the waves at Banyutowo Beach was also damaged as long as 50 cm.

He advised residents whose houses are near the beach to evacuate temporarily, while waiting for the weather to return to normal.
