CILACAP - The height of the southern sea waves of West Java, Central Java, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has the potential to reach 4-6 meters.

Based on the analysis, the wind in the southern part of Indonesia is dominantly moving from east to southeast with speeds ranging from 5-20 knots.

The gusts of wind that tend to be in the same direction as the high speed have an impact on the increase in wave height in the southern sea of West Java-DIY which is now entering the easterly wind season.

Related to this, his party issued an early warning of high waves in the southern seas of West Java, Central Java, and Yogyakarta which took effect on 23-24 May 2022.

In this case, a wave height of 4-6 meters which is categorized as very high has the potential to occur in the southern waters of Sukabumi, southern waters of Cianjur, southern waters of Garut, southern waters of Tasikmalaya, southern waters of Pangandaran, southern waters of Cilacap, southern waters of Kebumen, southern waters of Purworejo, and the waters south of Yogyakarta.

In addition, the Indian Ocean south of Sukabumi, the Indian Ocean south of Cianjur, the Indian Ocean south of Garut, the Indian Ocean south of Tasikmalaya, the Indian Ocean south of Pangandaran, the Indian Ocean south of Cilacap, the Indian Ocean south of Kebumen, the Indian Ocean south of Purworejo, and the Indian Ocean south of Yogyakarta.

Regarding the early warning of high waves, he appealed to all marine service users to pay attention to the risk of high waves on shipping safety because wind speeds of more than 15 knots and wave heights above 1.25 meters pose a risk to fishing boats.

Furthermore, wind speeds of more than 16 knots and wave heights above 1.5 meters pose a risk to barges, wind speeds of more than 21 knots and wave heights above 2.5 meters pose a risk to ferries, as well as wind speeds of more than 27 knots and wave heights. above 4 meters is a risk to large size ships such as cargo ships and cruise ships.

"We ask people who live and work on the coast around areas where high waves are likely to occur to stay alert. Tourists visiting the beach should not bathe or play on the beach because high waves can occur at any time," said Teguh Wardoyo.
