MEDAN - A group of perpetrators of fraud in the city of Medan was arrested by the Patumbak Police. The three were arrested for allegedly hypnotizing female students in an angkot.

The head of the Patumbak Police, Kompol Faidir Chaniago, said the three arrested suspects were Hendrik Tanjung (52), Oloan Pakpahan (40) and Manumpak Pangaribuan (56).

The incident occurred when the victim with the initials LS was about to go to his campus while waiting for an angkot number 64 on Jalan SM Raja, Simpang Amplas, Medan.

While in an angkot on Jalan Tritura, one of the perpetrators sitting next to the victim put fake gold under the seat.

"The fake gold was wrapped in Rp10,000 denominations and fake gold letters with a written price of more than Rp2.9 million. Then one of the perpetrators said to the victim 'who is this located'," said Kompol Faidir, Thursday, May 19.

Hearing the perpetrator's question, the victim stated that the money did not belong to him. Next, the perpetrator spoke by saying that in the folds of the money there was a gold bracelet.

Then the perpetrator asked the victim to share the gold that was found in the angkot. The perpetrator's invitation was approved by the victim.

"As a guarantee, the perpetrators exchanged the gold bracelet with their cellphone," he said.

Not long after, the victim realized that the gold bracelet was fake after the perpetrators got off and left the public transportation. Feeling cheated, the victim then reported the matter to the Patumbak Police.

Upon receiving the report, the police immediately launched an investigation and tracked down the perpetrator. It didn't take long for the officers to identify the perpetrators.

"We secured the three perpetrators on Jalan SM Raja, precisely in front of Jalan Garu I when they were about to take action again looking for victims. When they were searched, the officers found evidence from one of the perpetrators, named Oloan Pakpahan," he explained.

Currently, the three perpetrators and their evidence have been secured at the Patumbak Police Headquarters.
