CIANJUR - Police are still chasing the mother who threw away the fetus, which was found by a resident of Panembong Village, Mekarasari Village, Cianjur District, West Java, which is suspected to be the result of an extramarital relationship.

The head of the Cianjur police, Kombes Ahmad Suprijatna, said that the officers responded to the findings which had shocked residents by asking for statements from a number of eyewitnesses. The witness saw a female figure at the dump site.

"We have asked for statements from witnesses regarding the characteristics of women who dispose of baby fetuses in a location not far from residential areas. Currently we are still pursuing the perpetrators of the disposal of the fetuses suspected of having illegal relations," he said in Cianjur, Antara, Wednesday, 18 May.

Based on the witness' testimony, the woman who was suspected of throwing the fetus away had the characteristics of a tall, fat body, long brown hair, carrying a large bag and wearing a blue flower-patterned shirt.

An eye witness from a local resident, Rida (22), said that the baby who was dumped on the edge of the garden was discovered by his mother who was washing clothes. Suspicious of the woman's movements back and forth on the site, the mother then asked.

"The perpetrator did not answer, but tried to avoid and run away, throwing away a white cloth covered in blood. My mother gave chase, but she ran fast so she was not overtaken," he said.

His mother returned to the location where the unknown woman threw away a white cloth which turned out to be a bloody bandage. After being opened, it contained a fetus that was thought to be only a few months old.

"My mother reported it to the RT and then to the police," he said.

The baby's fetus, he said, was immediately taken by the police to the Cianjur Hospital. Police suspect that the perpetrators are not local residents because they are not identified. "Perhaps outsiders deliberately entered the village to eliminate traces," he said.
