East Java Governor Attends Tahlil Bus Accident Victims In Surabaya

SURABAYA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa attended the tahlil to pray for the victims of the bus accident that occurred at KM 712+400 line A of the Surabaya-Mojokerto toll road on Monday, May 16 morning.

"Hopefully the spirits of the victims are accepted by Allah SWT and the families left behind are given strength and patience," she told reporters after attending the tahlil at the Al Ikhlas Mosque in the Benowo Street area, Surabaya, Tuesday, May 17 evening.

Apart from expressing her condolences and deep concern, she also provided encouragement and moral support to the families of the victims.

Tahlil has entered the second day and was followed by hundreds of residents. It is planned that the tahlilan will be held for seven consecutive days at the same mosque.

Regarding the accident incident, Governor Khofifah conveyed that the East Java Police traffic accident team was still carrying out the investigation process.

"We are waiting for the final results from the East Java Regional Police who are carrying out their duties," said the number one person in the East Java Provincial Government.

According to Governor Khofifah, the safety of the fleet during the homecoming and return of coordination between the East Java Provincial Government through the Transportation Agency, the Health Office with the ranks of the Regional Police and Military Command as well as the ranks of the vertical agencies worked in every detail.

"However, the disaster came after the return trip. This is an important concern for caution for all, both the fleet and the fleet crew must still be in top condition when driving vehicles for both families and the public," she said, quoted by Antara.

On the same occasion, the Chairman of the Surabaya City DPRD, Adi Sutarwiyono, also expressed his condolences and at the same time prayed that the residents would be given strength over this exam.

"On behalf of myself, the leadership and members of the Surabaya DPRD convey my condolences. Thank you to all those who have been incredibly helpful, including the Governor of East Java who gave their attention," said Cak Awi, his nickname.

Bus accident with police number S 7322 UW at KM 712+400 line A of the Surabaya-Mojokerto (Sumo) Toll Road, East Java, Monday, May 16, at 06.15 western Indonesia time.

The PO "Ardiansyah" bus carrying 33 residents from Benowo, Surabaya, crashed into a Variable Message Sign (VMS) pole or a warning board on the shoulder of the toll road.

As a result of the incident, 14 people died, while the other passengers received intensive treatment at the hospital.
