JAYAPURA - There are still many children in the interior of Papua who cannot read yet. This has motivated the Babinsa Koramil 1708-04/Supiori Selatan to increase interest in reading in Papua.

One of the steps taken is to bring reading books (mobile libraries) to Maryaidori Elementary School (SD), Maryaidori Village, South Supiori District, Supiori Regency.

In addition to increasing interest in reading in children in Papua, this activity is also expected to increase the knowledge of children who are the nation's next generation.

"This is one of our efforts to increase interest in reading in order to eradicate illiteracy or illiteracy in the region through the role of Babinsa," said Sergeant Falentinus T. Warfandu in a written statement quoted by Antara, Monday, May 16.

According to Falentinus, bringing reading books for elementary school children is important because books are windows to the world.

In addition to children, his party also brought reading books for the local community so that they can also learn to read. To reach the village, he and his colleagues use motorbikes with reading books.

He emphasized that children are the nation's next generation that must be a common concern.

Meanwhile, the Principal of SDN Maryaidori Alex Awak thanked the local babinsa for their attention. That way, the children in the village can increase their knowledge and reduce the illiteracy rate.

"This is something very, very extraordinary that has happened in schools. We hope that this activity will continue to be maintained, especially during the current pandemic," he said.
