Officials Asked To Report Gratuities Received To The KPK If They Can't Refuse

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked officials to immediately report the gratuities they receive if they cannot refuse gifts from other parties. This must be done in order to prevent corrupt practices.

"If due to certain conditions a civil servant or state administrator cannot refuse the gratuity, then he is obliged to report it to the KPK," said Acting Spokesperson for the KPK for Prevention Ipi Maryati Kuding in a written statement quoted on Monday, May 16.

Ipi said the organizers had 30 working days to report the gratuity which could not be denied. There are a number of ways that can be done, one of which is accessing https://gratification.kpk.go.id or contacting the anti-corruption commission's public information service on telephone number 198.

"KPK continues to invite the public to avoid the practice of gratification, both as a giver and recipient. Because gratification can be included in a criminal act of corruption," she said.

Furthermore, Ipi announced the number of gratification reports during Eid al-Fitr. She said the KPK received reports of 395 items or objects of gratification from state officials or administrators with an estimated value of IDR 274,117,519.

The report consists of 7 objects in the form of souvenirs or plaques with an estimated value of IDR 4,350,000; 268 objects in the form of flower bouquets, food, and drinks with an estimated value of IDR 153,736,899; 9 objects in the form of money, vouchers, precious metals with an estimated value of IDR 32,290,000; and 111 objects in other forms with an estimated value of IDR 83,740,620.

"The reports consist of 367 acceptance reports and 28 gratification rejection reports," said Ipi.

As for the items reported, some have been received by the KPK. While the rest, Ipi said, are still in the process of being sent by the reporting party.

"KPK also continues to receive other Gratification reports, and we will update it at the next opportunity," she said.

"We express our appreciation to those who have reported the acceptance or rejection of the gratification. This is the first step to prevent corruption," concluded Ipi.
