PEKANBARU - The ship carrying 22 passengers from Tembilahan, Indragiri Hilir (Inhil), Riau sank. All passengers are safe.

Indragiri Hilir Police Chief, AKBP Dian Setiyawan said the ship sank due to avoiding wood in the middle of the river.

"It happened yesterday at around 14.00 WIB. The ship was from Tembilahan heading to BGL Baung, but on the way there were logs and the captain avoided," said Dian, quoted by Antara, Saturday, May 14.

While dodging the logs, the ship tilts and water enters. However, the position of the ship is already on the edge of the river with a water depth of about 1.5 meters.

"The ship was immediately overturned and in the video, all the victims disembarked safely. There were those in the river that the position was shallow. Only the adults' shoulders and belongings were scattered about," said Dian.

Dian confirmed that there were 22 people on the ship. All passengers are safe.

"It has a capacity of 25 people, but 22 people were on board. Thank God all were safe, there were no victims and Polair immediately evacuated," said Dian.

Previously, the video of the ship crashing on the Indragiri river was viral on social media. A number of passengers were seen swimming while helping other passengers.
