JABAR - Governor of West Java (Jabar) Ridwan Kamil revealed that the Family Planning (KB) program is one of the reasons Indonesia is a country that can manage the birth of its population very well.

KB is a program carried out by the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN).

"I can see that we are in the third group of countries that are very well regulated for the birth of children and their population," said Ridwan at the Standby Call for the Indonesian Mobile Family Assistance Team which was followed online in Jakarta, citing Antara, Thursday, May 12.

In Ridwan Kamil's point of view, currently countries around the world are divided into three major groups in terms of regulating population.

First, countries experiencing a productive age crisis such as Japan. Japan now has a condition where many citizens prefer busy working rather than getting married and delaying pregnancy. In Singapore, the government must provide incentives to its citizens who become pregnant.

Second, he continued, countries with high population conditions, but do not have a pregnancy program. An example is a country located on the African continent.

While the last group is countries like Indonesia which have a high population, but are balanced with a good population program.

According to Ridwan, with the family planning program, the quality of the nation's generation can be well-formed and help overcome problems such as stunting in children.

Through this program, the period of the first 1,000 days of life (HPK) can be monitored by a family companion team (TPK) consisting of midwives, PKK cadres and family planning cadres.

“The age range is usually the first 1,000 days that are the most vulnerable. If you pass, what can't be helped and eventually stunting occurs. Stunting is physically not growing, but the brain is also less responsive," said Ridwan.

Through the family planning program, the installation of contraceptives that can provide distance between births can also be intensified and introduced more closely to mothers and expectant mothers.

West Java, even already holds the MURI record, for placing 50 thousand implants or implants in mothers in one or two days. This is because during the COVID-19 pandemic, regional statistical data shows the pregnancy rate has increased.

Therefore, Ridwan emphasized that the problem of stunting must be addressed immediately so that the large population does not become a burden for the country in the future.

"If Indonesia, God willing, wants to be in the fourth position of the best world economy in 2045, the condition is that the demographics must not be stunted," he said.
