SEMARANG - Six members of a conspiracy to break into seven BRI branch offices in Semarang City, Central Java, with a loss of around Rp. 1.7 billion, have been tried at the Semarang District Court.

Public prosecutor Ardhika Wisnu in a hybrid trial in Semarang, Thursday, May 12, charged the six defendants with Article 264 or 263 of the Criminal Code regarding letter falsification.

The six defendants who were tried were named Kairun Fahri Nasution, Kiki Handayani, Rendi Dwi Putra, Muhammad Andry Syahputra, Taufiq Ramadhan, and Windari.

According to the prosecutor, the gang broke into the accounts of two customers through the seven BRI branch offices in just one day in February 2022.

He explained that the gang had prepared forged passbooks and ID cards belonging to two BRI customers.

"The gang withdrew funds from BRI with falsified customer data," he said in a trial chaired by Chief Justice Nenden Rika Puspitasari, as reported by Antara.

The gang is divided into two groups, each using customer data on behalf of Eka Dana and Fitroh Riyadi.

There were also seven branch offices that were burglarized, including BRI Ahmad Yani Branch for Rp. 450 million and Rp. 200 million, BRI Branch Patimura at Rp. 15 million and Rp. 500 million, and BRI Branch Piere Tendean for Rp. 150 million.

From the proceeds of the stolen money, the six perpetrators received varying shares.

The largest share was obtained by the defendant Kairun Fahri Nasution, who was the mastermind of this plot, amounting to IDR 1.2 billion.

Together with the defendants, 10 passbooks and ID cards of BRI customers that had been falsified were also included.

On the charge, the judge then asked the prosecutor to present witnesses who would be questioned at the upcoming trial.
