Failed To Bribe Police Officers Of IDR 52 Thousand, Resulted In A Fine Of IDR 52 Million

The man's full name is Krishna Rao Narisama Naidoo (34 years old). He had an accident with a motorcycle near Pioneer Road, Singapore on November 21, 2021, the Bureau of Corruption Practices Investigation (CPIB) said in a news release as quoted by Channel News Asia, Wednesday 11 May.

At that time, Senior Staff Sergeant Muhammad Azhar and Sergeant (2) Firhan Abdul Rashid came to the scene. Krishna confessed to Sergeant Firhan that he had been drinking alcohol.

Then he tried to slip a Singaporean 5-dollar note to Sergeant Firhan while asking, "please help".

Officers continued to interview him and he underwent a breathalyzer test, which failed. Sergeant Firhan conducted a personal search on Krishna and detained him.

"During a personal search, Krishna took a S$50 note from his bag and offered the money to Sergeant Firhan, as an inducement not to investigate him for a traffic violation," the Bureau of Corruption Practices Investigation said, noting that Sergeant Firhan did not accept bribes.

Krishna, a Malaysian citizen, was finally charged in court on February 16 with alleged corruption. In addition, he was also convicted and convicted of drunk driving and reckless driving as a serious offense.

"Singapore applies a strict zero-tolerance approach to corruption," the CPIB said.

Anyone convicted of a corruption offense can be fined up to S$100,000, jailed for up to five years, or both.

Krishna was sentenced to four weeks in prison and fined S$5,000 for trying to bribe Traffic Police officers and other traffic offences.
