Jokowi To US, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Becomes Acting President

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin will serve as the acting President during President Joko Widodo's working visit to the United States from May 10 to 16.

"Assigning the Vice President to carry out the daily duties of the President by the provisions of the laws and regulations as long as the President carries out a working and/or state visit to the United States from 10 to 16 May 2022 or until the date of his return to the country", this is written in the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 6 of 2022 concerning the Assignment of the Vice President to carry out the duties of the President, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 11.

President Jokowi signed Presidential Decree No. 6/2022 on May 10, 2022.

During the President's working and/or state visit to the United States (US), President Jokowi considered it necessary to assign the vice president to carry out the daily tasks of the President.

The Presidential Decree also stipulates that if within the assignment period, it is necessary to immediately establish a new policy, then the Vice President as the executor of the President's duties must first consult and ask for the President's approval.

Then, the Presidential Decree stipulates that after the President is back in the country, the assignment ends and the Vice President immediately reports the implementation of the task to the President.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi made a working visit to Washington DC, USA, to attend a series of meetings of the ASEAN-US Special Summit (ASEAN-US Special Summit).

Several meetings that the President is scheduled to attend during his working visit to Washington DC include;

1. Meeting with members of Congress;

2. Meetings with major CEOs in the United States;

3. Meeting with US Vice President Kamala Harris and the Americas Climate Change Team; and

4. Summit of ASEAN Leaders and US President Joe Biden.
