JAKARTA - The fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri received an audience of representatives of the South Korean government and parliament on the sidelines of her visit to Seoul, South Korea.

The meeting which took place at the Lotte Hotel Seoul, the General Chairperson of the PDI-P DPP was accompanied by the General Treasurer of the PDIP DPP Olly Dondokambey and the Chairman of the PDIP DPP Rokhmin Dahuri. The Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea, Gandi Sulistiyanto, attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, South Korea was represented by the Secretary to the President of South Korea, Dr. Byong-Joon Kim, Kim Seok-Ki who is one of the Chairpersons of the People Power Party (the ruling party in South Korea), CEO of the Korea Peace Energy Center Prof. Yong-Sang Chung, and South Korean Presidential Advisor Prof. Kim Suil.

"Thank you for your attention," Megawati said to her guests before starting the closed-door meeting.

After the meeting, Rokhmin Dahuri said that the discussion was about strengthening and developing mutually beneficial and respectful cooperation between the two countries, namely in the fields of economy, education and culture, research and development (R&D), defense and security, and politics.

In addition, the main topic discussed is the relationship between South Korea and North Korea after the inauguration of President Yoon Suk Yeol today.

"The Deputy Speaker of the DPR and the Secretary to the President of South Korea on behalf of the South Korean government under President Yoon asked Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri to continue to help or become a special envoy to make lasting peace between the two Koreas," Rokhmin said, recounting the contents of the meeting, as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 10.

According to him, at the meeting Megawati was happy to accept the request.

"Mrs. Megawati suggested that a heart-to-heart or brotherly approach should be prioritized for permanent peace between the two Koreas," said Rokhmin.

During the meeting, Kim Seok Ki said that the South Korean government and people understand history.

He also views Megawati as an important world figure.

"That Mrs. Megawati is a world figure who is able to facilitate the achievement of permanent peace between the two Koreas in the not too distant future," he said.
