JAKARTA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi checked the condition of Kenjeran Park (Kenpark) Surabaya, Sunday, after a slide incident collapsed which left dozens injured.

Governor Khofifah said based on an explanation from Kenpark management, there was a broken part of the water slide in the waterpark or swimming pool. However, he said, the swimming pool had been calibrated 2 years earlier.

"Last year it was confirmed that it had also been calibrated, now it is being confirmed with the team that reconstructed the waterpark here from Whitewater Canada," said Governor Khofifah as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, May 8.

To ascertain the cause of the incident, he said, his party is currently waiting for the results of an assessment or investigation from the police. On the other hand, he said, Kenpark Waterpark management is also waiting for confirmation from the party who carried out the construction. "So we are still waiting," he said.

The former Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) RI also felt the sadness experienced by the victims and their parents. In addition, Governor Khofifah claimed to continue to coordinate with Mayor Eri Cahyadi regarding treatment and trauma healing for the victims.

"Basically, in every hospital there is a parallel between the two. Meanwhile, for those who have returned home, the Mayor (Eri Cahyadi) said that a trauma healing team will be sent," he said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, ensured that all costs for treating victims at the hospital until they were fully recovered would be borne by the management. In addition to treatment costs, management also provides compensation to the victim's family.

"There are dozens of people who are being treated at the hospital. Meanwhile, about five people have returned home, namely four from Soewandhie Hospital and one person from Soetomo Hospital. That's what we will assist (trauma healing)," said Eri.
