JAKARTA - The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, appealed to regents/mayors throughout the East Java region to aggressively accelerate the second and third doses of vaccination after the 2022 Eid holiday.

"The main goal is to prevent the spike in COVID-19 cases, especially in the words of Khofifah at the Grahadi State Building, Surabaya, Friday, May 6, as reported by Antara.

Khofifah hopes that the district / city government will immediately take steps to accelerate the gas injection for the second and third doses of COVID-19 vaccination after the Lebaran holiday ends this week.

"We seriously urge all regional governments in East Java to accelerate vaccination, especially doses two and three. We want all regencies/cities in East Java to immediately enter PPKM level 1," he said.

As is known, a new standardization has been carried out for determining the PPKM level which is determined based on the achievement of vaccinations set by the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).

To get level 1 status, each region must be able to carry out a second dose of vaccination as much as 70 percent of the total target.

This is different from the previous standard, namely PPKM Level 1 can be achieved by areas that achieve at least 70 percent of the first dose of vaccination.

The first female governor in East Java emphasized that in order to realize the acceleration of the vaccination, the stock of vaccines in the East Java region was ensured to be in very sufficient condition.

“For this month alone, this province already has 1,141,314 doses of vaccine for stock. The number consists of several brands. There are Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Sinopharm, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and Covavax. The most stock is Pfizer. The number reached 119,354 doses," he said.

It is estimated that the vaccine stock is sufficient to meet the need for accelerated vaccination during this month.

That's why, he continued, the East Java COVID-19 Handling Task Force has not submitted a request for additional doses to the center

Meanwhile, the technical implementation of vaccination acceleration is prioritized for districts/cities that still hold PPKM level 2 and 3 status with the target of the second dose vaccination coverage in those areas having to be above the minimum standard of 70 percent.

So far, among 38 regencies/cities in East Java, 12 regencies/cities have PPKM Level 1 status, then as many as 25 regencies/cities have implemented PPKM level 2, while one other area is still at level 3.

"We hope that all regions in East Java can reach level 1 and the vaccination will be comprehensive soon. That way the case is under control, the community is healthy, comfortable with activities and the East Java economy recovers quickly," he said.

Currently, the achievement of the first dose of vaccination in East Java has reached 92.83 percent, the second dose is 78.65 percent, and the third dose is 15.96 percent.

Specifically for the achievement of the third dose of vaccination or booster, the highest was Mojokerto City (47.88 percent), Surabaya City (43.83 percent), Madiun City (32.55 percent), and Malang City (28.69 percent).
