JAKARTA - Welcoming Eid 2022, a number of locations in the UK will hold celebrations this year, open to the public after the COVID-19 pandemic for the past two years.

Eid al-Fitr translates as 'the festival of breaking the fast' and is one of the major holidays in the Muslim calendar.

In central London, Trafalgar Square will host the 17th Eid festival on 7 May, a festival developed by grassroots Muslim organisations.

Meanwhile, for the first time this year, the Edgbaston international cricket stadium in Birmingham was used to celebrate Eid with 2,000 people on Monday 2 May.

Organizers at the Green Lane Mosque and Community Centre, will also host another Eid celebration at Small Heath Park and welcome around 20,000 people.

"We have worked with the Edgbaston team on a number of projects and have been impressed by their professionalism and genuine commitment to supporting local communities," said Kamran Hussain, chief executive of Green Lane Mosque, a leading British mosque in Birmingham.

In Manchester, more than 10,000 people celebrated Eid in the Park, which has become the fastest growing event and is now, at Platt Fields Park, in its seventh year.

Meanwhile, two other Eid events were held in Ilford, East London, and another at Shepherd's Bush in West London.

Then, the Ilford event was held again at Goodmayes Park for the 16th year and the Shepherd's Bush event at the Westfield Shopping Center is now in its third year.
