JAKARTA - Labor Party President Said Iqbal hopes that the General Elections Commission (KPU) will take firm action against money politics that may occur in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

"We want the KPU to eradicate the practice of money politics. We want to remove the slogan 'take the money, don't choose the person'," Said Iqbal told the press in front of the KPU building, Central Jakarta, Sunday, May 1.

According to Said, the practice of money politics has the potential to produce legislative candidates who have a culture of corruption. It is feared that the resulting law products will be corrupt and not in favor of the people.

He hopes that the KPU will not be intervened by any party and can act decisively in giving sanctions to election participants who carry out money politics.

The Labor Party hopes that the KPU commissioners will produce honest and fair elections. He also asked the KPU not to postpone the election time that had been determined, confident that it would be February 14, 2024.

He hopes that with this demonstration, the government, especially the KPU, can run elections in accordance with the people's expectations.

"Our arrival actually supports the KPU and the commissioners must be brave in making decisions to hold fair elections, take action on money politics and do not change the election time," said Said, as quoted by Antara.

During the demonstration to the KPU, the masses who were members of the labor group began to visit the KPU building on Sunday morning.

At 10.12 WIB, people wearing orange clothes had already filled the sidewalk in front of the KPU building. They stood in front of the building while unfurling a banner that read "Lower Prices of Basic Materials, Reject the Omnibus Law of the Job Creation Act".

Currently the number of masses is still in the tens. While gathering in front of the KPU building, the masses also played music from the command car that had been parked in front of the KPU building.

Uniformed police officers were also on standby in front of the KPU building. Although it was already quite crowded, Jalan Imam Bonjol in front of the KPU building was not jammed due to this demonstration.

Workers held a demonstration in front of the KPU building and the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout in Central Jakarta to commemorate World Labor Day on May 1. His demands include asking the government to lower the prices of basic commodities.
