Dirlantas Polda Metro: Student-Labor Demonstration Today Is In Order

JAKARTA - Dirlantas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo stated that the demonstration held in the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue area and in front of the DPR building was running in an orderly manner.

Currently, the students and workers who held the demonstration have disbanded.

"Thank God, today went quite in an orderly, smooth manner, there were no incidents, both at the Horse Statue and the DPR-MPR, the masses had dispersed," said Sambodo when met at the Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta, Thursday, April 21.

Sambodo said the demonstration site had been cleaned by cleaners. The barbed wire barrier on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat to Harmoni has now been removed, so traffic has returned to normal.

Sambodo hopes that there will be no more mass gathering in certain locations because the time limit for the demonstration has ended at 18.00 WIB.

"Hopefully it will continue until tonight is peaceful. Even if there are further demonstrations, they can go on like this, safely, smoothly, orderly, and can be disbanded on time," said Sambodo.

It is known that there were two action points that were held in Jakarta today. The action in the Horse Statue area was held by the Indonesian Student Alliance which also included BEM UI and several other universities.

Here are seven demands of students in action at the Horse Statue:1. Take firm action against constitutional criminals and reject the discourse on extending the term of office of the president.2. Lower the price of basic needs and overcome economic inequality.3. Take firm action against all repressive actions against civil society with a strict and non-discriminatory mechanism.4. Realize scientific, free, and democratic education.5. Pass the pro-people bill, reject the pro-oligarchy bill.6. Realize true agrarian reform.7. Complete all human rights violations.

Meanwhile, the action at the DPR RI building was held by a group of students and the People's Labor Movement (Gebrak) voiced 10 demands that they wanted to convey to the leadership of the DPR, namely: 1. Stop discussing the unconstitutional job creation law and stop efforts to revise the law for the formation of the statutory regulations.2. Stop criminalizing the people's movement and solve human rights violations.3. Lower prices (fuel, cooking oil, PDAM, electricity, fertilizer, VAT and toll roads).4. Arrest, prosecute, imprison, and impoverish all corrupt perpetrators.5. Redistribution of national wealth (provide social security for education, health, housing, public facilities, and free food for the community).6. Pass the Domestic Work Law and provide protection for migrant workers.7. Realize true agrarian reform and stop the deprivation of agrarian resources8. Reject postponement of elections and extension of presidential term.9. Provide access to the widest possible public participation in the planned revision of the National Education System Law.10. Reject the revision of Law No. 21 of 2000 concerning Trade Unions.
