JAKARTA - First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo stated that this year's Kartini Day celebration should be interpreted as an era of women's awakening against the COVID-19 pandemic and the awakening of women to restore the economy.

"We can immediately realize an advanced Indonesia as we all aspire to," said Iriana Jokowi during the 2022 Kartini Day Commemoration at the State Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's official YouTube channel, reported by Antara.

According to Iriana, thanks to the struggle and spirit of Raden Adjeng (RA) Kartini, Indonesian women can be equal to men in every field of life, and contribute to the development of the family, nation and state.

RA Kartini's struggle, said Iriana, has also inspired many Indonesian women to have merits and achievements, both in their respective provinces, nationally and internationally.

The First Lady said that the 144th anniversary of Kartini Day this year was still in a pandemic situation. However, thanks to the hard work of all parties, including great women, the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Indonesia can be controlled properly.

"I would like to thank all female health workers and all Indonesian women who have struggled to control the pandemic in the country," he said.

Iriana also conveyed her condolences to the Indonesian women who died in the struggle to be at the forefront when dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The role of Indonesian women is highly expected to contribute to encouraging recovery from the pandemic. This is a great potential to accelerate recovery and improve the economy," said Iriana.

The government, said Iriana, will continue to be committed to providing as many opportunities as possible for Indonesian women to continue to work and maximize all their potential in every sector.

On that occasion, Iriana also gave awards to 514 award recipients who have contributed and achieved achievements in the fields of education, health, social, culture, environment, and agriculture.

According to him, this is proof that women can also be instrumental, achieve, and contribute to the surrounding community.

"I hope that the spirit of the young, the old, without obstacles to achieve," said Iriana Jokowi.
