36 Houses In Makassar Pioneer Police Dormitory Burnt

MAKASSAR - A total of 36 tenement units in the Pioneer Police (Aspol) Dormitory were engulfed by the red rooster ahead of breaking the fast on Jalan Veteran Selatan, Mamajang District, Makassar, South Sulawesi.

"There weren't too many obstacles during the fire, because the location happened to be the one that caught fire on the side of the highway. Only the type (of houses) were flammable, so the fire spread rather quickly," said Makassar Firefighter Danton I, Andi Akbar Iksan on the sidelines of extinguishing the fire, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, April 20.

Regarding the cause of the fire, he said, it was not yet known for certain, because there were sounds of explosions during the process of extinguishing the fire. Luckily, there were no casualties in the disaster, but the losses were estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah.

"The reason, we do not know, either from firecrackers or from electricity (short circuit). We have not received any information," said Akbar.

The number of firefighters that were deployed to extinguish the fire was 23 units. In detail, 15 units from the Mako Damkar, assisted by four units from the Eastern Command Post, two units from the Malangkeri Command Post, and two units from the Carester Command Post at Ujung Tanah were assisted to extinguish the fire.

Data from the Head of the Dormitory, compiled by the fire brigade team, showed that 36 units of tenement houses were burned, with an area of about 60 x 120 square meters of burned objects. The incident occurred at around 17.00 WITA and was successfully controlled at 18.14 WITA.

So far, the exact cause of the fire is not known, but the source of the fire first emerged from information from local residents, coming from one of the residents' houses, on the roof, then enlarged and then spread to other houses in the local police dormitory.

When the fire grew bigger and engulfed the surrounding houses, several explosions were heard. It is suspected that one of the houses in the police dorm was selling firecrackers.

One of the residents of the hostel, Hendra said, the origin of the fire was in the end house, then it immediately grew. A number of residents immediately panicked and rushed to save valuables.

He revealed that the pioneering police dormitory on Jalan Veteran was the longest, mostly retired police officers domiciled. There was also a house selling firecrackers that caught fire.

"Earlier it happened when we were about to break the fast, it was time for people to cook. All this was over. There were a lot of explosions, the fire then spread quickly. We don't know where this is going to take refuge, the point is that the fire started from the roof of the house at the end of it, " he said.

The fire has been brought under control and the police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
