President Orders PUPR To Build Breakwaters For Fishermen In Surabaya

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) to build infrastructure for breaking waves in Bulak, Surabaya, to facilitate fishing activities.

"They asked for a breakwater and I will immediately send a team from PU here," said President Jokowi on the sidelines of a visit to the Bulak Fisherman's Village, Bulak District, Surabaya, East Java (East Java), Wednesday, as stated by the Press, Media and Information from the Presidential Secretariat was reported by Antara, Wednesday, April 20.

The President visited the Bulak Fisherman's Village accompanied by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.

Jokowi took the time to have a dialogue with the local fishermen forum. In the dialogue, the fishermen's representatives conveyed their requests related to the need for breakwaters.

During the review, President Jokowi also distributed Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) to fishermen.

Also accompanying the President in the activity were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir, Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi.

In addition to visiting the Bulak Fisherman's Village, Surabaya, the President on the same day also visited the Bale Purbo Fishing Boat Pier in Gresik Regency, East Java.

The President came to the Bale Purbo Fishing Boat Pier to see firsthand the activities and catches of the fishermen, as well as have a dialogue to listen to the aspirations of the representatives of the fishing groups.
