North Sumatra Prosecutors Arrest Fugitives Defendant In Oil And Gas Case

MEDAN - The North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Intelligence Team (Kejati Sumut) arrested fugitive defendant ZS (49) in an oil and gas crime case in the Muaro Jambi area.

"Defendant ZS was arrested at his home in Penggalian Village, Tebing Syahbandar District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra, Saturday (16/4) at around 23.15 WIB," said the Head of the North Sumatra Attorney General's Office, Idianto, represented by the Head of Criminal Justice Department Yos A Tarigan, quoted by Antara, Monday, April 18th.

Yos said that previously the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office received a letter from the Jambi Prosecutor's Office regarding the request for the arrest of defendant ZS with Number: R-01/L.5.3/S.19/Dti.1/01/2022 dated January 4, 2022.

Furthermore, the North Sumatra Attorney General's Office conducted a search and found out the whereabouts of the accused. Then the team followed the movement of the defendant and when ZS was about to rest at his house, he was arrested on Saturday (16/4).

"We then handed over the defendant to the Jambi Prosecutor's Office, who was received directly by Asintel Jufri, accompanied by the Head of Intelligence at the Muaro Jambi Prosecutor's Office, Ahmad Fauzan and the Public Prosecutor for Criminal Justice. Then it was handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Muaro Jambi for further processing," he said.

Kasi Penkum Kejati North Sumatra said, the defendant allegedly violated Article 53 letter b of Law No. 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas. The defendant carried out the business of transporting oil and natural gas without a permit.

Yos said that through the program to capture fugitives, the Indonesian Attorney General's Office asked his staff to monitor and immediately arrest DPOs who were still on the loose for execution in order to ensure legal certainty.

"We call on all DPOs of the prosecutor's office to immediately surrender and be held accountable for their actions," said Yos.
