2 Thugs In Medan Who Threatened To Destroy The Project If They Were Not Given Security Money Of Rp. 10 Million Were Arrested

MEDAN - The Medan Police Criminal Investigation Unit team arrested 2 extortionists named M Tri Mandala (27) and Syeh Abidin Hasibuan (37). Both were arrested for forcing residents to give Rp10 million under the pretext of security.

Kasatreskrim Polrestabes Medan, Kompol M Firdaus said, the incident began when the perpetrators visited a development project in the District of Medan Perjuangan on January 15. Both of them asked for millions of rupiah from the victim named Dedy AP.

"The suspect asked for money (with the excuse) of organizational development. The suspect threatened that if it was not given it would destroy the project building belonging to the victim," said Kompol Firdaus, Monday, April 18.

Kompol Firdaus said the victim who was under threat gave Rp5 million to the perpetrator on January 20. However, it didn't stop there, on Monday, April 12, the two perpetrators came back and asked the victim for Rp 10 million.

"But it was rejected (the victim), because the perpetrator had already been given money," he explained.

Not happy with the perpetrator's actions, the victim then reported the perpetrator's behavior to the police. The victim and the police coordinated to trap the perpetrator.

"At that time the victim pretended to want to give Rp. 4 million to the perpetrator. At that time they met and the perpetrator was immediately arrested by the police," he explained.

"So that an ambush was immediately carried out. Together with the two, evidence was secured by 2 units of cellphones and Rp. 4 million in cash," he explained.

To the police, the perpetrator admitted all his actions. The perpetrators threatened the victim via WhatsApp by asking for money worth Rp. 10 million.

"Then they corrected the amount, then asked for another Rp 4 million on behalf of the organization's representatives. For their actions, the two suspects were given Article 368 of the Criminal Code concerning extortion," said Kompol Firdaus.
