Bending Iron Trellis, Convict Escapes From Atambua Prison, Now Being Chased By Police And Army

KUPANG - Atambua Penitentiary, Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) together with police and TNI officers are looking for a prisoner with the initials JNTM who escaped from his cell.

"Until now, coordination is still being carried out to search for the inmates who escaped on Friday morning," said Head of the Class IIB Atambua Correctional Institution, Edwar Hadi, quoted by Antara, Monday, April 18.

This was conveyed by him related to the development of the case of the escape of a prisoner in the prison.

The prisoner is estimated to have escaped from his cell at 01.30 WITA by breaking into the main door of the isolation room, then climbing over the security wall using the sarong belonging to the person concerned.

This was discovered after at 05.45 WITA, the Head of the morning security team, Paulus Fereira, checked the number of occupants before handing over the morning guard duty and found that one prisoner, alias N, was not in his room.

Officers found the door bars of the isolation room, one iron bar was bent and one side was detached, thus creating a gap to get out.

Edward said the possibility of the prisoner escaping to Timor Leste is very small because the border area is currently heavily guarded by security forces.

"Currently, all border routes are closely guarded by officials from both Indonesia and Timor Leste, especially now that there are elections in Timor Leste," he said.

The prisoner is also now included in the wanted list (DPO), therefore his party hopes that the prisoner will surrender himself as soon as possible.
