JAKARTA - The police arrested a suspected dealer of counterfeit money (upal) initials R (20) who was transacting at a local sub-district shop. His job is an HP repairman.

"The alleged perpetrator is a resident of Peteluan Indah Village, Lingsar District, West Lombok and works as a cellphone repairman," said Central Lombok Police Chief, AKBP Hery Indra Cahyono, in a written statement in Praya, NTB, Thursday, April 14, quoted from Antara.

The case of circulating counterfeit money during Ramadan began when members of the Aik Bukak Village Babinkamtibmas received information from residents who were selling at the kiosk in front of Seganteng Elementary School.

He admitted that he got counterfeit money when R bought cigarettes with Rp20,000 bills. Then the personnel moved quickly and arrested R while he was with his friend in a rice field in Seganteng Bat Hamlet, Aik Bukak Village.

"From the results of the initial interrogation, R admitted to getting the counterfeit money through social media Facebook," he said.

The counterfeit money was obtained by R by ordering and sending it through a freight forwarder, after the order arrived, R was taken by himself at the J&T Bujak office of Mantang Village. Furthermore, R used the counterfeit money at several locations in Central Lombok Regency, precisely in Pancor Dao, Kembang Kerang, Aik Darek, Sengkol, Mantang Crossroads, Selebung, Otak Dese and Bagu Villages.

"The evidence confiscated were two denominations of Rp. 50,000, which were suspected to be fake. This case is still being developed to dismantle the network of other perpetrators," he said.

Central Lombok Police appealed to the public to remain vigilant and careful when there are people who are not known and shop at their stalls or shops.

"When someone is shopping, the money used by the buyer must be considered more carefully," he said.
