TANJUNGPINANG - The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) of Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (Kepri) has temporarily withdrawn the circulation of Kinder Joy snack products on the market following the voluntary recall of Kinder Joy products in the UK and a number of European countries because they contain Salmonella.

"Actually, Kinder Joy in England is produced by a Belgian state producer. In Indonesia, the product does not get a distribution permit," said Head of BPOM Tanjungpinang Rai Gunawan, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, April 12.

Meanwhile, the kinder joy found in Indonesia, he said, was produced by an Indian producer. There are three types of Kinder Joy circulating in the country, namely Kinder Joy, Kinder Joy for Boys, and Kinder Joy for Girls.

But for the precautionary principle, he continued, the POM Agency continues to conduct random sampling and testing of the circulation of Kinder Joy products in Indonesia to ensure that these products are free from exposure to Salmonella bacteria.

"Therefore, temporarily withdrawing its circulation in the market until the POM Agency's sampling test comes out," said Rai.

Rai said that from the results of monitoring in Tanjungpinang so far, no products other than the three types of Kinder Joy circulating in Indonesia have been found.

According to him, the findings of Salmonella bacteria in Kinder Joy products in the UK have a negative impact on health, such as stomach pain and ulcers.

"But it has not yet reached the level of death severity. To anticipate this, the circulation of Kinder Joy products has been stopped first, including in Tanjungpinang," said Rai.
