JAKARTA - Professor of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Airlangga Surabaya, Henri Subiakto, appealed to the public to actively report digital criminals on social media (medsos) by accessing the reporting features provided by the relevant platform.

"Perpetrators of digital crimes, such as cyberbullying or verbal harassment, can actually be reported by the community to social media platforms. These reporting tools are on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. The public must be actively involved in reporting it," said Henri in a virtual discussion " The Urgency of Legal Protection Against Verbal Harassment in the Digital Era", as monitored from Jakarta, reported by Antara, Friday, April 8.

By reporting the perpetrators of these crimes, he continued, related social media platforms can play an active role in cleaning content from digital crime content, by eliminating or closing accounts that are proven to have committed crimes.

"This is intended so that there is not only law enforcement by punishing the perpetrators, but also to clean up digital content by involving the role of the platform by eliminating, closing, or sanctioning the account," he explained.

In addition, he also reminded the public of the importance of increasing literacy regarding the use of social media, especially with regard to uploading content. According to him, with sufficient digital literacy, people will be more careful in sharing uploads to social media.

In the discussion held by the Faculty of Law at the Veterans National Development University (UPN) Jakarta, Henri appealed to the public not to upload things that are personal or have the potential to attack others.

"Literacy is very important so that the large number of people, even reaching around 191 million people who are active on social media, are really careful. Don't upload something related to personal problems, attacking people's personalities," he said.

The public must also properly identify the accounts that are used as friends on social media, in order to minimize the occurrence of digital crimes, including cyberbullying.
