Suggestions From The Leadership Of The House Of Representatives Commission X Regarding The Return Of Pancasila As A Subject

JAKARTA - The leadership of Commission X DPR supports Vice President Ma'ruf Amin's statement regarding the plan to restore Pancasila as a separate subject in the education curriculum. As stipulated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 4 of 2022 concerning National Education Standards.

Deputy Chairperson of Commission X DPR Hetifah Sjaifudian said the developments of today's era have provided various changes in people's lives. Unstoppable modernization began to change people's behavior, and Pancasila was often abandoned.

"The abandonment of Pancasila can be seen, for example, from the rampant acts of violence for various reasons, such as religious reasons, and others," Hetifah told VOI, Friday, April 8.

In addition, continued Hetifah, the entry of new cultures, especially due to information technology which is dominated by social media, has made people start to lose their identity. "Actions of youth violence, for example, often appear on social media," he said. The Golkar legislator for the East Kalimantan electoral district assessed that the return of Pancasila as a separate subject in the education curriculum was very important. Because Pancasila is the basis of the state that must be obeyed and practiced in the life of this state.

"A lot of people support this," he said.

However, said Hetifah, the packaging of Pancasila learning should not be like the indoctrination in the past. Pancasila education today, according to him, must be carried out in a participatory, emancipatory and applicable way in everyday life. "So Mr. Ma'ruf Amin's proposal has long been recommended to the Ministry of Education and Culture to be included in the curriculum. Commission X also encourages this," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Abdul Fikri Faqih, assessed that character education has not yet received the right form. Moreover, due to the impact of the pandemic, character education is difficult to carry out if teaching and learning activities (KBM) are carried out online (online/PJJ).

"When there was a change in regulations regarding National Education Standards, it turned out that something was missing, namely Indonesian language education and Pancasila. Educational stakeholders reacted to objections," said Fikri to VOI, Thursday, April 7, evening.

According to him, Indonesian and Pancasila lessons are still important. Even though there is no need to repeat the old model like PMP, Pancasila Education is very important for character education.

"It could be combined with Citizenship Education. So that students' national and state insight hopes can be formed," said Fikri.
