JAKARTA - A fire occurred in a densely populated area on Jalan Kawi-kawi Atas, RT 17/08, Johar Baru Village, Johar Baru District, Central Jakarta, Wednesday 6 April, afternoon. The fire is thought to have been caused by a short circuit in the house of one of the residents.

According to Sumi, 54, a resident around the location of the fire, she knew from her husband who shouted fire.

"After washing the dishes, suddenly my husband saw that there was a fire and it just grew bigger. The fire appeared from the 2nd floor. I immediately panicked and left the house, it turned out that the fire had already burned one house on that floor," he told VOI at the fire site, Wednesday April 6.

Luckily, the fire did not spread to other residents' houses after being sprayed by 15 fire engines.

Head of the Central Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. Asril Rizal said the fire burned the house belonging to Rustana and other residents.

"During the incident, Rustana saw an explosion on the 2nd floor of her house, then a fire appeared and grew. Then the owner of the house contacted the fire department," Asril told VOI.

Baidilah explained that the objects that were burned were eight rented plots. The cause was an electric short circuit from the rented house.

"Currently, the fire has been completely extinguished. There are no victims in this fire," he said.
