Ferdinand Hutahaean Charged With 7 Months In Prison For "Your God Is Weak"

JAKARTA - Ferdinand Hutahaean was sentenced to seven months in prison by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) in the case of the "Allahmu Lemah" tweet at the Central Jakarta District Court, Tuesday, April 5. The trial of the charges took place in the Sujono courtroom, Central Jakarta District Court. From the observation of VOI at the location, the panel of judges opened the trial at around 13.00 WIB. The former Democrat Party politician was seen wearing a white shirt with jeans. In his indictment, the Public Prosecutor stated that Ferdinand was found guilty of broadcasting false news so as to cause lies. For that matter, the Public Prosecutor asked Ferdinand to remain in custody. "The defendant Ferdinand Hatahaen was sentenced to 7 months in prison minus the defendant in custody," said the public prosecutor at the Central Jakarta District Court, Tuesday, April 5. For his actions, Ferdinand is believed by the prosecutor to have violated Article 14 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning the Criminal Law Regulation or Article 45A paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to the Law. Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (hereinafter referred to as UU ITE) or Article 156a letter a and/or Article 156 of the Criminal Code. The prosecutor also detailed the things that incriminate Ferdinand, namely the actions that caused widespread unrest in the community. Ferdinand also did not set an example to society.

While mitigating things, the Prosecutor assessed that Ferdinand was polite during the trial and regretted his actions. Responding to the results of the trial, Ferdinand Hutahaean said, whatever the final decision, he was ready to undergo it. "We will submit a memorandum of defense. I myself will deliver a personal plea, apart from the defense by my lawyer later," he said. While related to the prosecutor's demands, his party respects the professionalism and performance that has been carried out by the Public Prosecutor (JPU). "We respect that the prosecutor has carried out his duties professionally," he concluded. Previously, Ferdinand Hutahaean was charged with broadcasting lies and causing trouble and inciting based on SARA. Ferdinand's actions refer to one of his tweets on social media regarding "Your God is Weak". "The defendant's words were clearly not only directed at Bahar Bin Smith and his group, but those who were hurt by the defendant's words were religious adherents. Islam that exists throughout Indonesia; And it is also possible that Muslims in this world are offended and angry because of the lies conveyed by the defendant on his Twitter," said the Prosecutor.
