JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives Ahmad Doli Kurnia assessed that the proposal of the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate for Indonesia to start implementing the e-voting system in the 2024 general election (Pemilu) still needs an in-depth study.
Because regardless of technological advances, the use of e-voting can result in data deviation. Moreover, the number of hackers and other disturbances.
"In my opinion, we have to be really careful. Because in some developing countries, e-voting has also begun to be corrected and is also prone to manipulation," said Doli to reporters on Tuesday, April 5. Doli then explained, in the last 2019 election, Commission II of the DPR and election organizers have used the e-recap system. However, he said, it still needs to be evaluated so that it continues to improve.
"Maybe that's what we can do first. The stages are using the electronization system or there are other stages before we discuss in detail about e-voting," he said.
That's why he has doubts about the proposed use of the e-voting system in the 2024 general election. There are many other systems that are safer than e-voting.
"So I am skeptical of e-voting because maybe there are other systems for voting that are safer, can be accounted for to actually produce people's votes. That will be the final result of the election," said Doli.
Previously, the Chairman of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU), Ilham Saputra, emphasized that his party did not plan to use an electronic voting system (e-voting) in the 2024 election.
"Until now, the KPU does not plan to use e-voting (in the 2024 election). However, we have used information technology, as in previous elections, such as the Electronic Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap). Of course, we also initiated Sirekap to be used in Election 2024," said Ilham Saputra, Tuesday, March 29.
According to Ilham, the use of e-voting in the 2024 General Election is not yet important to implement because so far, the stages of voting in elections have not been problematic.
