Research Results In The United States: Complications Of Heart Disease Are More Risky In People Who Have Been Exposed To COVID-19

JAKARTA - A new study shows that the risk of heart complications is significantly higher after a person is infected with SARS-CoV-2 than after a COVID-19 mRNA vaccination.

The research, published by the US Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) on Friday, April 1, analyzed electronic medical record data from 40 US healthcare systems over the period January 1, 2021-January 31, 2022.

The scientists found a trend that the risk of cardiac reactions was significantly higher after SARS-CoV-2 infection than after the first, second or indefinite doses of COVID-19 mRNA vaccination for all other groups by sex and age, according to the study.

The findings support continued use of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine among all eligible persons aged 5 years and over, he said.

Cardiac complications, particularly myocarditis and pericarditis, were associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 mRNA vaccination.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome is a rare but serious complication of COVID-19 infection, often involving the heart, according to the research.
