Maluku Police Find Firearms And Homemade Bombs In The Forest Of Haruku Island

AMBON - The Maluku Regional Police (Polda) managed to find several firearms, dozens of bullets of various calibers and explosives in the forest area of Haruku Island.

One organic SKS firearm was found, one homemade rifle. The patrol team also found 34 bullets consisting of 12 5.56 caliber bullets, 22 7.62 mm caliber bullets, and eight bottle-made homemade bombs. Previously, on February 13, 2022, the patrol team also found a homemade rifle.

“This is a form of the Maluku Police's seriousness in responding to events that have recently occurred in Maluku, especially on Haruku Island, and after the clashes in Pelauw and Kariuw. We are combing the Haruku forest because it is suspected to be a place for storing firearms," said Director of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation at the Maluku Police, Kombes Andri Iskandar, in Ambon, Maluku. voluntarily convey information there are several hiding points or places to hide firearms and homemade bombs.

"Regarding the discovery, we have indeed checked the community around the place of discovery, but from them we have not received any results regarding the owner of the weapons we found," he said.

Police also do not know the identity of the owner of the firearm without a permit and the ammunition and explosives. "We will not stop here, of course there will be further steps that we will take," he said.

In addition, the Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Police, Kombes M. Roem Ohoirat, said, "We have carried out patrols and raids since the clashes between residents occurred on Haruku Island. We found several explosives and firearms. We will develop the results," he said.

Roem said the findings indicated that firearms were still circulating in the community, so the police appealed to all people who still possess dangerous weapons to hand over the prohibited items voluntarily.

"We will not process the law if people surrender their firearms and explosives voluntarily. But on the contrary, if they are not handed over and we find them during our raids, we will act according to the law," he said.
